Most of the poetry I write is humorous, but every once in a while I get serious. In 2005 I won the Grand Prize in the Half Price Books Bedtime Storybook contest for a poem called “The Butterfly Tree.”  


As I got older, I got pretty good at writing funny poems for special occasions.  Here’s one I wrote for my daughter’s second grade Challenge Math group.


When I was six, I wrote my first poem, called “The Seasons.” Here is the first stanza:

Not a very auspicious beginning, I’m afraid.


While my first published book happens to be in prose, I love writing in rhyme. My current works in progress include three poetry collections and three picture books in verse. Look for my poems in Boys’ Quest, Hopscotch for Girls and Highlights for Children.

I like winter best of all.

What comes next is fall.

Then comes summer and spring and such.

I like them all very much.
